Companies Are Already Using AI. Here's What They Are Up To
Enter your email to download this post as a PDF. We will also send you our best business tips every 2 weeks in our newsletter. There's a reason companies like Google, Amazon, and Facebook are obsessed with artificial intelligence. As the former tech chief of Baidu, Andrew Ng, said, artificial intelligence will be like the new electricity – a technology that finds its way into practically every aspect of our economy. AI has the potential to improve our lives to such an extent that it might eliminate the need to work at all. Gathering resources might not be a problem at all.
Smart software can diagnose prostate cancer as well as a pathologist
Chinese scientists and clinicians have developed a learning artificial intelligence system which can diagnose and identify cancerous prostate samples as accurately as any pathologist. This holds out the possibility of streamlining and eliminating variation in the process of cancer diagnosis. It may also help overcome any local shortage of trained pathologists. In the longer term it may lead to automated or partially-automated prostate cancer diagnosis. Prostate cancer is the most common male cancer, with around 1.1m diagnoses ever year, worldwide1 (for comparison, that's around x4 the number of men who live in Copenhagen).
Researchers Call for More Humanity in Artificial Intelligence
Artificial intelligence researcher Fei-Fei Li has spent her career trying to make software smart--with some success. Lately she's begun to ask herself a new question: How can we make smart software aligned with human values? "As much as AI is showing its power, it's a nascent technology," Li said at the WIRED25 Summit in San Francisco Monday. "What's really important is putting humanity at the center." As a researcher at Stanford and Google, Li has helped perfect and spread machine learning technology that allows computers to understand the world through images and video.
Testing of artificial intelligence
It's changing the way we work, manufacture, communicate, entertain ourselves, manage our health, money, fitness, and more. Smart software is embedded in so much of what we do and use in today's digital world. But I believe that this presents us with a real problem in terms of quality. Because the actions and responses of intelligent machines will differ over time and thus are less predictable than traditional IT-systems. And also, because the manually intensive way we've developed, tested and delivered software up until now, is no longer enough to meet the escalating demand for new and innovative applications, in every walk of life.
Artificial Intelligence in HR: The Basics You Need To Know
Arnold Schwarzenegger is a man of the future, he was onto the potential of Artificial Intelligence (AI) way before everyone else. Once again, something that seemed possible only in science-fiction films or a very distant future, turned out to become reality. That is, the Artificial Intelligence part, not the killer- robot-with-laser-gun part, thank god. Slowly but surely though, awareness about AI in HR is increasing, and there has been a lot of speculation about its future potential and applications. It's about time we had a closer look at Artificial Intelligence ourselves.

Amazon Acquires Deep Learning Startup Orbeus to Make Inroads in Smart Software for Connected Devices and Cloud Computing
Amazon.com Inc., the largest internet retailer in the world, has acquired Artificial Intelligence-based deep learning startup Orbeus Inc. The acquisition underlines the effort made by Amazon to dig deeper into the world of smart software for its businesses in the cloud computing and connected devices spheres. This development was revealed by an Amazon insider who chose to remain anonymous as the company is yet make an official statement about the acquisition. Amazon's CEO Yi Li and other representatives of the company have not commented on the matter either. However, online search has disclosed that the domain name of Orbeus, Orbe.us, is registered in the name of Amazon Hostmaster, which is a part of Amazon technologies Inc., an Amazon subsidiary.
BootstrapLabs AI is going to change everything
We are on the brink of a major disruption, which we think might be bigger than the industrial revolution. At BootstrapLabs we are focusing heavily on a major shift that is impacting almost every sector: Artificial Intelligence – AI. AI has reached an inflection point, where it can now be applied to quickly drive efficient returns, and in our book, is ripe for building startups that will disrupt major markets and their incumbents. During the Industrial Revolution, the steam engine enabled a major technological shift as a large amount of manual labor was now able to be automated. Yet, few know that the first version of the steam engine was actually built the 1st century CE and was called Aeolipile.
